I really cannot stand it when people get defensive especially when you're being extremely nice about something. Also that whole 20 years thing..... Me and an ex-fiance got into an argument one time and he says, " Well I've been doing this for 33 years, so I know what the hell I'm talking about!" I told him, "No, you've been screwing it up for 33 years! Big difference!"

I got a gel manicure and the nail polish started peeling off after a week.I payed 60 for that and another 15 for an acyrlic removal before the manicure 🙄

Proper technique is important not only for control and accuracy but also for the health of the technician. You can cause a lot of trauma to your body with poor ergonomics which will leave you in pain and shorten your career. A modified pencil grip using your ring finger as a fulcrum will give the best stability and prevent repetitive motion damage.

Why on earth would you go back there? I might try another person but only after letting them know what happened.

You are so incredibly kind. I have had this happen to me as well and I will never go back to those places. Doing this level of nail care for 20 years is inexcusable in my book. Most notably in an upscale salon. 🤦‍♀

I just use a nail clipper-

Im a veterinary technician and we hold dental instruments in a similar way as you would an efile. How you hold a tool like this absolutely impacts how it functions. It changes the angles you have access to, the default pressure youll use, the contact points, and the ergonomics. With the low and high speed handpieces, the grip is called a Modified Pen Grasp, where the thumb opposed the middle and pointer fingers along the shank of the instrument. The ring and pinky fingers are used as pivot points, always in contact with the patient. The high speed handpiece moves astonishingly fast - around 350,000rpms (compared to efiles that range from 20k-40k). Having control over it is the most important part of the process, and how you hold it is vital.

I was a bather for a dog groomer for a while. when filing a dog's nails, you hold it like a knife and use your thumb to anchor your hand. I mainly hold the file like a pencil for doing my nails, but sometimes I switch back to the knife hold if it's more comfortable 😆
